Volunteers
Thank you for taking the time to work with our students! Your contribution is valued. Here are resources to help you. Lots of additional resources are in other locations on this site that you are welcome to use with your student. Remember, it is perfectly ok to tell a student that you aren't familiar with a particular strategy. Ask your younger partner to explain the strategy - if he/she can verbalize it, it will help his/her understanding. You can also research a strategy together.
The Art of the Question:
*Can we look at a problem you have done that is similar to this one?
*How is this problem alike or different from one that you have already done? *What have you tried so far? *What do you understand about this problem? |
*Which step is causing you trouble?
*What resources could we check to help us? *Is there someone here we could ask for help? *Do you have access to online resources for your math program? |
*Can we look in your math book?
*What could we do together to help you with this? *Check with your teacher or classmates tomorrow . I look forward to you showing how to solve this during our next session! |
